Marketing on the Web simplified with Google my business 3.0 technique

Marketing on the Web simplified with Google my business 3.0 technique

Marketing has always been an exciting part of being in business. There’s something thrilling about getting the word out about your business, product, or service. There’s no business out there quite like yours. No one else offers exactly what you offer. That means something to you and to your customers.

There’s also part of marketing that’s extremely intimidating. How in the world do you fully capture exactly what your business or product is and does? How, exactly should you market your business in a way that will really resonate with your audience and show just how different your business is from everything else out there?

These days, much of marketing is done on the web. That’s exciting news for you and me. It means that marketing is finally and fully in our hands. Using the web, you can successfully market your business with very little output financially, if you don’t have the budget. There are many great, free ways to market.

There are also many incredible paid advertising opportunities that allow you to target your exact audience like never before. There’s a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to marketing your business on the web.

It Starts With Your Website

It might seem obvious, but it’s shocking how many business people want to successfully market their business on the web but don’t even have a website (or don’t have a well optimized website). That’s a mistake.

There are tons of different ways to market your business online, but you need a central hub where your customers can find you and learn more about you and what you have to offer. That hub will be your blog or website, and from the beginning it should be branding who you are and what you stand for.

( Google My Business 3.0 ebook -googleplay -ibooks -kobo - infographics )

Your website is where you’ll write about your company and products. You’ll post helpful articles, videos, and/or audio.

You’ll interact with your customers and readers via a blog. They’ll get excited about your projects and get to know you on a more personal level.

You’ll have opt-in forms on your website so people can join your list. This is the heart of online marketing—owning a list you can write to, promote to, and build relationships through. We’ll talk more about that soon. For now, know that it’s important for your business.

Building Relationships as Part of Marketing

It might not seem like it on the surface, but building relationships is a very important part of marketing. Why? Because the relationships you have among your target audience and other heavy hitters in your niche partially determines how successful your marketing is. Those who have solid relationships and good reputations have an easier time making sales, gaining joint venture partners and affiliates, and so on.

How do you build relationships? A big part of your marketing and relationship building will come from your activities and presence online. That means forum marketing, interacting on social sites, commenting on your blog and blogs of others, and so much more. Be present and helpful online. Get to know people.

People buy from, and pay attention to the marketing of, people they know, like, and trust. If you want your marketing to be much more effective, it just makes sense to make relationship building a big part of your marketing strategy.

Getting the Word Out About Your Brand as Part of Marketing

What is your company and what does it stand for? How is your business different from similar businesses? When you want people to think of your brand, what do you want them to think of?

GMB edition3.0 - googleplay -laura maya

These are all important questions to ask yourself. You should have a solid idea of what your brand is and how you’re going to present yourself to others. You’ll spread word of your brand all over the web as part of your marketing.

Come up with a tagline for your business, if you don’t have one already. Come up with a consistent graphic and logo and/or color scheme that you use on your products and web properties. People should easily be able to identify you and your brand as part of your marketing efforts.

What’s your purpose? How do you want to be remembered and thought about?

List Building and Online Marketing

I've mentioned already that list building is one of the most important things you can do for your business. It’s one thing to have a presence on social media or something like that. That’s great… but you need to build a list. A list is something you have control and ownership over. It’s where you can really get to know your customers and they can get to know you.

When you have a list, you can email your promotions and offers and free information of value and recommendations, whether there’s any financial gain in it for you or not. You can get people excited about the new things you’re working on.

Everything you do in your marketing—from paid ads, to social media, to SEO efforts, should all lead to building your list and improving your relationship with the people on your list. It’s the most important part of online business success and I suspect it always will be.

Social Media and Online Marketing

Social media is a very important part of marketing on the web. In fact, it’s all but expected that your business be on social media these days. This means Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and wherever else your target audience hangs out.

That’s a big part of what this is all about—being where your audience is. I recommend you create a Facebook page and/or a Facebook group. I’ve had a lot of success with my free Facebook group, The IM Inside Track

I recommend you take a look at how other successful people in your niche are handling social media and consider emulating and brainstorming strategies based on what they’re doing successfully.

You can use social media for so many things. It’s a great way to drive traffic to your list and web properties, it’s an awesome way to build relationships, and it’s ideal for showcasing that you’re an authority in your niche—someone to watch and follow.

Sales Copy and the Power of Persuasion

Part of marketing on the web is understanding how to write web copy and the power of persuasion. The web runs on content. Since you’re in business and you’re marketing yourself online, it’s important to understand the language of marketing.

Study copywriting and persuasion. It can be as simple as grabbing a few books on Amazon, reading some of my content on how to write copy, studying and emulating (not copying) copywriters and marketers you admire. And, most importantly of all, by practicing.

Your power to write effective copy will shine through in everything you do online. Grab hold of that power to market on the web. Understand your audience and write directly to the needs, passions, and desires of your audience and you’ll do well.

There will be plenty of episodes inside this site about copywriting, so be sure to take advantage of them.

Paid Ads and Online Marketing

I’ve mentioned free ways of marketing online at this point. What about running paid ads? They can be extremely effective. You can use paid ads to see how effective a squeeze page or sales page is, for example. It’s quick and easy data you can gather in hours instead of weeks or months like you’d have to wait with many free methods.

Facebook ads are particularly effective because they allow you to target your audience very narrowly. Part of this is knowing exactly who your audience is. You set your budget, figure out a way to get those who click your ad to stick around, and then have a plan about what to do with that traffic.

That’s not the only option, of course. Google Adwords ads can also be very effective. There are certainly other players in town.

Running paid ads can pay off many times over. Many web business owners shy away from paying for ads because there are so many ways to market that are easy and free. At the same, time, there are drawbacks to those methods. Paid ads can help you save time and help you earn more money with less effort. If nothing else, paid ads are perfect to use alongside free methods like social media.

Bringing It All Together To Successfully Market Your Business

I could go on and on about marketing your business on the web, and I will throughout other lessons on this site. This one was designed to give you a solid overview so you can move forward to effectively market your business on the web.

I just want you to be prepared, if you’re just now starting out, to keep in mind that your marketing message is important. You need to be branding yourself from the very beginning, with consistency.

We live in an exciting time. It doesn’t matter whether you’re new or experienced, it doesn’t matter how much time you have or how much money you have… you can market your business on the web. The playing field is as even as it ever has been—seize this opportunity to market online and achieve your goals.

Building a Brand That Makes Money

There's a lot of information out there on how to brand products and product lines. Most of it pertains to million dollar companies, not work at home people who aspire to perhaps one day earn a million dollar salary, and certainly not to bloggers.

But branding isn't just for corporations - it's for anyone in business. When you have a brand that is easily recognized as an authority in your niche, you've got a symbol that goes out into the world and brings back business. And you've also got a tangible asset you can one day sell, if you build your brand correctly.

I recently took a course on branding from Debbie LaChusa. And while her course was geared towards coaches and consultants, some of what she taught can actually be applied to bloggers and information product sellers as well.

To begin, there's a lot of confusion concerning what branding is, so for our purposes Debbie defines branding as simply, 'Who You Are and What You Stand For.' It's how you position yourself in the marketplace, or your point of view on your particular topic. Bottom line, it's what you want to be known for.

The benefits of branding yourself or your business:

  1. You'll attract more customers and clients because you stand apart from your competitors. It's easier to get and hold the attention of your customers.
  2. You'll attract the RIGHT clients. When you take the time to decide exactly who your ideal customer is, you can tailor your branding and your marketing to attract that exact customer.
  3. Your unique point of view attracts opportunities like speaking engagements and guest blog posts, and possibly even media exposure.
  4. You understand who you are and what you're about, giving you more confidence and allowing you to make better marketing decisions.
  5. The right name can allow you to charge more for the exact same products and services. For example, Anthony Melchiorri of Hotel Impossible says you can charge 70% more if your brand name includes the word "hotel" instead of "motel."

So how do develop your own brand? Before I outline the step-by-step process, please realize you can spend days on this. In fact, I recommend you do spend days thinking about it, answering the questions and finding the brand that you know you want to live with for a long, long time. Ready? Let's get started:

First, define who you are or what your business is. What's your story? What do you stand for? What experience, methods or tools do you offer that no one else does? Who are you? What are your core values, and what's your personality? Spend some time on these questions because they'll help you with the rest of the process.

Second, choose your ideal clients. Who are they? What are their problems? What do they want? And what do they value? It may help to create an avatar of your perfect client, right down to her profession, age, location, lifestyle, values, desires, problems and so forth.

Third, what is your big promise? It's not your product or service that your clients want, it's the solution to a problem they have or a big benefit that they desire.

Fourth, uncover your brand platform. This is where you, your clients and your big promise all come together. It's what you want to be KNOWN for.

Fifth, brain storm for ideas to develop your brand name. Hold your own brain storming session with your colleagues, friends and maybe your children, too. Then when you run out of ideas, try using one or more of these tools:

Crowd Source it on Reddit

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/

Google Translate – You might find your word in another language works perfectly

http://translate.google.com/

Urban Dictionary – You never know what you'll find here. Today the first entry is "horizontal peeing." If you use that for your company name, I guarantee you'll be remembered, although I doubt anyone will do business with you.

Visual Thesaurus – Stuck for synonyms? Use this 21st century thesaurus to get you unstuck

http://www.visualthesaurus.com/

And here are some domain name generation tools:

http://www.leandomainsearch.com/

http://www.namemesh.com/

http://www.nametumbler.com/

Sixth, do your research. Google the name to see if you can find it, who's using it and in what capacity.

Then make sure your brand name is actually available throughout the social media channels by using:

http://namechk.com/

Next, if you're in the U.S. go to the U.S. Patent and Trademark website at http://uspto.gov

Go to 'trademarks,' and then 'trademark search,' and then 'basic word mark search.' Type in your brand name and see if anyone has registered it. If the name is trademarked already, check to see if it's in a completely different category than your business. If it is, you can most likely register it. For example, if you want to name your business Fat Toad Recording Studio and there's already a Fat Toad Bakery, you're not going to be competing in the same market.

For those living in the U.S. you might also want to go to your state's Secretary of State website and do a search to see if your business name has been incorporated in your state.

Carefully choosing your brand takes some time and effort, but it can pay off in multiple ways for years, making you a recognized icon in your niche.

How do you increase brand awareness through Instagram?

You probably heard the phrase "It's a marathon, not a sprint" applied to a wide range of situations. Anything that requires some sort of long-term commitment and devotion to excellence and quality over time is a fair game, as far as the saying is concerned.

Make no mistake, great relationships require that you stick to somebody regardless of what you feel. Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, they're not all that nice to you, there are all sorts of things going on around you that can affect your relationship.

Despite all of that, whether these threats come from inside or outside, you have to stick to it: this is commitment. This is all about dedication and seeing something all the way through, from the beginning through the middle to the end. Instagram marketing is one of these things.

It's easy to get tricked into thinking that marketing success simply boils down to getting the right kind of software to do the right kind of job; to produce the right kind of outcomes for the right kind of people at the right time, at the right place.

How awesome the world would be if things were that easy. Unfortunately, the world is not some sort of height of sales page, it is the real world. Just like anything that is real, there are all sorts of complications out there and the consequences that you really need to be mindful. Otherwise, it's too easy to fall into a mindset that things should be quick, easy and convenient.

Anything that is worth having in life is worth sacrificing for. What exactly are you sacrificing? You're sacrificing your sense of entitlement to things being quick, easy and convenient. That's what's going on when people say that something is a marathon not a sprint. Instagram marketing is one of these because if you ever gotten excited about Instagram you know that it takes work.

It's easy to see the upside. It's easy to see the potential, after all, Instagram has over one billion active users and 500 million active users month after month. These are people who can't help but look for their social media updates. It's as if, they live, eat, breathe and go to the bathroom using Instagram.

Given that tremendous traffic potential it's easy to just jump in with both feet and look for the quick payout. How hard could it be? It's all about getting clicks to your profile page so you can direct that traffic to where you wanted to go. Unfortunately, playing the game that way leads to disappointment. You have to understand that there is no one-time, big-time strategy here. You cannot focus on short-term success. If you did that, you're going to put yourself in a one-way ticket to failure.

Make no mistake, Instagram marketing requires a tremendous commitment of your time, focus and attention to details because of the following:

First, you will be focusing on patterns. These patterns won't happen overnight. These patterns only take place when you have enough traction. This means that you have to put in work over an extended period; you have to focus on the long-term.

It's easy to declare victory when you notice that the certain patterns that lead to your website are really converting well, but it may turn out to be some sort of statistical fluke. It may be a mirage in a big scheme; the things that you're actually doing is wrong.

It may need quite a bit of improvement. Finally, if you want to be successful on Instagram, you have to position your brand the right way. Again, this takes time, effort and sustained focus.
